NACDS government affairs exec to chair NASPA committee

ARLINGTON, Va. – Sandra Guckian, vice president of state government affairs for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, has been named chair of the associate member advisory committee of the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA) for 2014-15.

NACDS said Thursday that in the role, Guckian will facilitate communications within NASPA and between its state pharmacy association members and associate members, which include trade associations like NACDS and other pharmacy stakeholders.
"Being asked to serve in this leadership capacity for NASPA is a real tribute to Sandra’s commitment to state pharmacy issues," NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson said in a statement. "Sandra works closely with our state partners and leads a team of state-level advocates at NACDS who are highly-engaged on vital issues in all 50 states.
"We look forward to Sandras enhanced role with NASPA in advancing pro-patient, pro-pharmacy issues such as Medicaid reimbursement and expanding the scope of pharmacy practice," Anderson added.
Guckian has served as the NACDS liaison for NASPA since 2010, following her promotion to her current role of vice president of state government affairs. During that time, she has represented NACDS on the NASPA associate member advisory committee. Guckian will also serve as a member of NASPA’s program committee for 2014-15.
NASPA promotes leadership, sharing, learning and policy exchange among pharmacy leaders in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.. The alliance also provides education and advocacy to support efforts by pharmacists, patients and communities to improve public health.
