Pharmaca, Kerr roll out mobile Rx apps

October 25th, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO – Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy and Kerr Drug have deployed mobile applications from mscripts that help customers manage their prescriptions via smartphones.

San Francisco-based mscripts said that with its app, Pharmaca and Kerr pharmacy patients can refill prescriptions, receive medications pickup and dosage reminders, and get a complete view of their health information through their mobile phone.

"Pharmaca has always provided customers with innovative solutions for their health needs," Stuart Gratz, vice president of pharmacy operations at Boulder, Colo.-based Pharmaca, said in a statement. "This new app makes it easy to manage prescriptions and health information, allowing customers to communicate with us in a variety of ways. It also emphasizes our commitment to green initiatives: knowing the status of their refills reduces unnecessary trips to the pharmacy and allows our customers to maximize their time while they are in the store."

In announcing Kerr's launch of the app, mscripts said smartphone users can use the tool to access a store locator and weekly specials plus order a quick refill by scanning the QR code on prescription bottles. A text messaging option for non-smartphone users also enables patients to receive many of the same benefits.

"Kerr Drug delivers cutting-edge solutions to improve our patients' health and make their lives easier," stated Kerr Drug chief executive officer Tony Civello. "A mobile option allows our patients to convert their phones into medical wallets to easily manage their prescriptions and access a wide range of our pharmacy services."

The drug chains' apps and mobile websites, m.pharmaca.com and m.kerrdrug.com, operate on a secure network created by mscripts. The company noted that facilitating two-way interactions between pharmacies and patients promotes medication adherence and, in turn, greater customer satisfaction.

The apps are available as a free download from the pharmacy chain's websites and via Apple iTunes, the Android Market and Blackberry App World.

"Our solution elevates patient engagement from passive browsing of web-based information into an active participation in their well-being," commented mscript CEO Mark Cullen.  "This text and mobile application facilitates a direct dialogue between pharmacies and patients, making it easier to refill prescriptions, keep current on medications and share information, thereby leading to a healthier life."

Pharmaca has 24 pharmacies in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. Kerr operates 80 drug stores across North Carolina.
