Promo gives consumers chance to star in Dr. Pepper ads

PLANO, Texas – Dr. Pepper Snapple Group has announced "Be the Next /1," a national consumer contest that offers fans the chance to star in upcoming national television commercials and digital advertising for the Dr. Pepper soft drink brand.
The company said fans are invited to submit 60-second videos online at DrPepper.com that explain what makes them "One of a Kind" — the brand's current advertising theme — and why they should be chosen to appear in the next Dr. Pepper ad. Submissions will be accepted through June 19.
Dr. Pepper's "/1," or "one of one," campaign features real people with inspiring real stories. Each ad spot has highlighted a "one of a kind" personality, and in its new initiative Dr. Pepper is turning to fans to share their life stories.
"Dr. Pepper is 'One of a Kind' and so are our fans, which is why we have such a deep and meaningful connection with them both online and offline," commented Leslie Vesper, director of marketing for Dr. Pepper. "We're excited to offer our fans — the real people who have grown with the brand and continue to inspire us — a chance to show millions of people what makes them 'one of one.' "
After the submission deadeline, Dr. Pepper will select the top 10 videos as semifinalists for the Be the Next /1 contest. Semifinalists will then have the opportunity to rally support from people in their communities and nationwide to gather votes for their submission on DrPepper.com, as well as through a personalized hashtag on Twitter.
The five semifinalists with the most votes will move on to the final round, where Dr. Pepper will pick one grand prize winner to appear in the national ad.
