Walgreens taps executive for CCR

DEERFIELD, Ill. – In another round of executive changes at Walgreen Co., Mike Arnoult has been appointed vice president of Customer-Centric Retailing (CCR), the retailer’s store optimization initiative.
As the head of CCR, Arnoult replaces Chong Bang, who left in December to join Shoppers Drug Mart.
Walgreens president and chief executive officer Greg Wasson told analysts late last month that the CCR rollout would be pushed back to the beginning of March so that a new store decor package could be included in the conversion work. Still, the format is slated to be deployed in nearly 3,000 stores by the end of this fall.
Previously Arnoult was vice president of online merchandising, preceded by 19 years in store operations, where he rose through the management ranks from store manager to district manager and finally to vice president of store operations.
In other moves, Miguel Almeida has been promoted to divisional vice president of online merchandising in addition to his responsibility for multichannel operations.
Almeida, who reports to senior vice president of e-commerce Sona Chawla, joined Walgreens in March as director of online operations after serving in similar roles at Apple Corp. and Dell Inc. Before that he was a consultant with Boston Consulting Group, having earned an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.
Also reporting to Chawla is Jabir Patel, who has been promoted to director and general merchandise manager of online photo. A 21-year company veteran, Patel worked his way up through the store operations ranks and joined Walgreens’ e-commerce group in 2000, filling various merchandising roles.
Patel is credited with an instrumental role in developing the retailer’s industry-leading online photo business in recent years. He earned an M.B.A. in 2007 from Northern Illinois University, from which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1996.
