The National Association of Chain Drug Stores recently announced the recipients of chain pharmacy’s highest honors at its Annual Meeting. The recent departure of vice president and divisional merchandise manager Chuck Fehlig has led Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to reorganize its health and wellness team. Veteran National Association of Chain Drug Stores executives Fitz Elder and Phil Schneider have agreed to retire as part of a groupwide reorganization. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has appealed a U.S. District Court’s approval of settlements in the First DataBank Inc. and Medi-Span Inc. lawsuit. A renewed emphasis on providing stimulating, eclectic information for retailers and suppliers will mark this year’s NACDS Marketplace Conference, which runs June 28 to July 1 in Boston. CVS Caremark Corp. is poised to take advantage of competition in the pharmaceutical marketplace, national health care reform and demographic changes, according to chairman and chief executive officer Tom Ryan. Kerr Drug has reinvented the traditional community pharmacy, converting two of its stores into Naturally Kerr locations, which opened late last month. Three divisional vice presidents/general merchandise managers and Walgreen Co. have parted ways. Community pharmacy will prosper in the coming years if it remains focused on its priorities, executives said at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Annual Meeting here last month.
