WOONSOCKET, R.I. – CVS Caremark Corp. has named Nancy-Ann DeParle, a former top aide to President Barack Obama on the health care overhaul, to its board of directors.

DeParle, 56, will be an independent director serving on the board’s audit committee.

She worked in the Obama administration from 2009 until January of this year, first as counselor to the president and director of the White House Office of Health Reform and later as assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff for policy.

With over 25 years of experience in health care she is considered to be a leading expert in health care policy, management and financing. She is currently a partner at Consonance Capital Partners LLC, a private equity firm that invests in small and mid-size health care companies.

From 1993 to 2000 she was associate director for health and personnel for the White House Office of Management and Budget, and later administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, since renamed the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
