Regardless of which way the Supreme Court rules next year on a challenge to President Obama’s health care overhaul, the decision is likely to have major implications for community pharmacies across the country. CVS Caremark Corp. has undergone a series of personnel changes, including the departure of the drug chain’s vice president of consumer health care merchandising and the promotion of three other executives. Former Generic Pharmaceutical Association head Kathleen Jaeger has joined the National Association of Chain Drug Stores as senior vice president of pharmacy care and patient advocacy. The backlash over Medicaid prescription reimbursement cuts has intensified in California and Texas. Navarro Discount Pharmacy has opened its 30th store, a unit in Homestead, Fla., as the regional drug chain moves forward with its expansion strategy. Community pharmacy chains and supplier companies kicked in over $1.77 million for scholarships, research and charitable activities at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation’s annual dinner here late last month. Walgreen Co. has rolled out its new Web Pickup service at stores in this metropolitan area, giving online shoppers a brick-and-mortar pickup option. This year’s holiday shopping season got off to a strong start, and drug chains were among the early winners. Walgreen Co. has added scannable coupons to its mobile applications, offering exclusive discounts to its smartphone customers.
