Discount Drug Mart adopts Kodak photo system
August 25th, 2009
MEDINA, Ohio – Discount Drug Mart plans to deploy Kodak Picture Kiosk G4 Digital Stations and Adaptive Picture Exchange (APEX) thermal dry lab systems in all of its stores.
Under the new contract, Discount Drug Mart is slated to upgrade its fleet of older Kodak picture stations to Kodak G4 stations, which will enable customers to create and order a wider range of photo products, such as picture movie DVDs, picture CDs, enlargements, collages, calendars, invitations and greeting cards, according to Eastman Kodak Co. The G4 stations can create standard 4x6 prints up to 70% faster than the older kiosks, the company said.
Discount Drug Mart also plans to increase the number of Kodak picture kiosks per store, Kodak reported. The drug chain, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, currently has 69 stores across Ohio and plans to open its 70th store in eastern Cleveland next spring.
"Kodak is providing both an integrated suite of photo finishing solutions and the technical and business expertise needed to enable all our locations with one-stop access to award-winning photo products and services," John Graycar, Discount Drug Mart's director of photo operations, said in a statement.
Also as part of the agreement, the chain aims to replace its AgX wet labs with the scalable Kodak APEX system. The dry lab solution is more energy-efficient and takes up less time during activation, operation and maintenance because it eliminates processing chemicals, water and other supplies used in traditional wet labs, according to Kodak.
"One of the key benefits that made APEX attractive to Discount Drug Mart," Graycar commented, "is that it requires less training and labor to operate than wet labs, which will allow us to improve the efficiency and profitability of our in-store photo centers."
Earlier this summer, Kodak announced that Gouverneur, N.Y.-based Kinney Drugs inked a deal to roll out its APEX system, as well as G4x stations and other solutions, in all of its stores.
