Duane Reade to roll out Blockbuster DVD kiosks

DULUTH, Ga. – Duane Reade Inc. is working with NCR Corp. to deploy Blockbuster Express DVD rental kiosks in most of the metropolitan New York drug chain's stores.
The kiosks will be deployed in 200-plus Duane Reade stores over the next few months.
The self-service kiosk and ATM manufacturer said Tuesday that it plans to install the Blockbuster units in more than 200 Duane Reade locations over the next few months, with most deployed by the year's end. The Blockbuster kiosks are currently available in some of Duane Reade's 256 stores, according to NCR.
Through the kiosks, Duane Reade customers will be able to rent DVDs for $1 per night and return them to any Blockbuster Express kiosk location. The kiosks hold more than 900 DVDs, providing an array of new releases and classic titles.
Duluth, Ga.-based NCR noted that no membership is required to rent a DVD at the kiosks; customers simply swipe their credit card and are charged $1 per night until they return the DVD.

By partnering with NCR to include Blockbuster Express kiosks in select stores, we continue to create a more convenient and efficient shopping experience for our customers," Joe Magnacca, chief merchandising officer at Duane Reade, said in a statement. "The Blockbuster Express kiosks offer affordable entertainment and provide another way Duane Reade makes New York living easy."
DVD rental kiosks are a natural offering for retailers in high-traffic urban areas because of their small footprint, according to Alex Camara, vice president and general manager of NCR Entertainment.
"Paired with a convenience or drug store location, it gives consumers a very convenient way to pick up their favorite entertainment titles while they shop for everyday items," Camara explained. "New Yorkers think of Duane Reade for convenience. Our DVD kiosks provide Duane Reade with additional convenience for its customers."
