Pharmacy Chat added to Walgreens.com
August 6th, 2010
DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens customers can now chat live online with pharmacists anytime through a new service dubbed Walgreens Pharmacy Chat.
Walgreen Co. said the service, unveiled Friday, enables customers to have a one-on-one, online chat with a pharmacy staff member available 24x7 via the Walgreens web site at www.walgreens.com/pharmacychat. The service is available to registered users on walgreens.com; registration is free.
The drug store chain noted that Pharmacy Chat makes its pharmacy staff even more accessible. About 20% of Walgreens' 7,500-plus pharmacies are open 24 hours daily, according to the company.
"Pharmacy Chat gives our patients and customers another way to reach out to Walgreens pharmacy when it's most convenient for them," Kermit Crawford, executive vice president of pharmacy at Walgreens, said in a statement. "Our pharmacy staff is always here to help, and we continue to introduce innovative technologies that bring our pharmacy services to our patients wherever they are, whenever they need us."
Through Pharmacy Chat, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can answer questions regarding prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, pricing and prescription status and provide other information, Walgreens said, adding that customers also can get in touch with pharmacy staff over the phone.
Walgreens went live with Pharmacy Chat the same week that Rite Aid Corp. introduced an online pharmacy chat service. Announced Tuesday, Rite Aid's service allows members of its wellness+ customer rewards program to chat online with a pharmacist.
