Navarro Discount Pharmacy recognizes vendors

MIAMI – Navarro Discount Pharmacy has announced the recipients of its first Vendor of the Year Awards.

The Miami-area retailer, the nation's largest Hispanic-owned drug store chain with 28 stores, said Wednesday that the awards are aimed at honoring participating vendors and encouraging merchandising support, improved store promotions and collaboration on company initiatives.

Navarro's 2010 Vendors of the Year were Colgate-Palmolive, for National Vendor of the Year; MBR Industries, for Local Vendor of the Year; Advantage Sales and Marketing, for Broker of the Year; and PDX, for Pharmacy Vendor of the Year.

Criteria for the awards included the quality of merchandising support, reinvested dollars into Navarro in the form of product, promotions and advertising, the pharmacy chain said.

"We greatly value the relationships we have with vendors and suppliers, some of which have been in effect for decades," Navarro chief executive officer Steve Kacynski said in a statement.

The Vendor of the Year Awards were announced during Navarro's Vendor Summit in Miami earlier this month. At the event, vendors listened to a brief presentation about the drug chain's objectives and were urged to further engage their brands in the retailer's programs.

Also at the summit, vendors and suppliers received information on Navarro's new partnerships with SONA LLC, StoreBoard Media and Demonstration Marketing Co.

"We see our vendors as partners and look forward to collaborating with them and developing innovative ways of staying competitive," commented Cristy Leon-Rivero, Navarro's vice president of marketing.
