August 15th, 2011
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – Supervalu Pharmacies has started providing flu vaccines at its 801 pharmacy locations on a walk-in basis.
The pharmacy arm of supermarket retailer Supervalu Inc. said Monday that flu vaccinations are now available daily in 25 states at its stores under the banners Acme Sav-on Pharmacy, Albertsons Sav-on Pharmacy, Albertsons Osco Pharmacy, Cub Pharmacy, Farm Fresh Pharmacy, Jewel-Osco Pharmacy, Shaw's Osco Pharmacy, Shop 'n Save Pharmacy, Shop 'n Save Osco Pharmacy and Shoppers Pharmacy.
Flu immunizations won't be administered at the Save-A-Lot or Hornbacher's chains, according to Supervalu.
Specially trained and certified pharmacists can administer the traditional flu shots as well as the needle-free FluMist nasal spray and the Fluzone high-dose vaccine for patients ages 65 and older during regular pharmacy hours. Supervalu added that some of its supermarkets without pharmacies will host walk-in flu shot clinics.
The seasonal flu vaccination costs $28.99, for either the traditional shot or the FluMist spray. Fluzone HD is priced at $59.99.
Overall, Superavlu's retail network covers 4,290 stores, including 1,107 traditional retail stores (801 of which have in-store pharmacies), 1,283 hard-discount stores and 1,900 independent stores served mainly by the company's food distribution business.
