Rite Aid Xmas promotion aimed at Facebook fans

December 5th, 2011

CAMP HILL, Pa. – Rite Aid Corp. has launched "25 Deals of Christmas," a new seasonal promotion that offers its fans on the social media site Facebook the first chance at a limited number of high-value coupons for gifts and stocking stuffers.

The drug store chain said Monday that new deals will be offered each weekday from Dec. 5 to Dec. 23. Products include beauty supplies, men's grooming gifts sets, electronics and toys.

The promotion is geared around "The Rites," a Facebook family of five personalities that will be seen only at facebook.com/riteaid.

According to Rite Aid, visitors clicking on the 25 Deals of Christmas tab can make public pledges — such as not worrying about perfectly wrapping gifts or finishing shopping before Christmas Eve — and take personality quizzes. Quizzes match the fan's personality to one of the "Rite" family members — from "Deal Digger" Mama Rite and "Procrastinating" Papa Rite to "Prepared & Preppy" Patrick Rite and his two sisters — and offer a Facebook "share" option that lets fans share their personalized results with their friends via their own Facebook Wall.

"With a little over three weeks to go before Christmas, we know shoppers are starting to feel the pressure to find great gifts for everyone on their shopping lists," John Learish, senior vice president of marketing at Rite Aid, said in a statement. "25 Deals of Christmas is a way for us to recognize our Facebook community by making it easy and fun to save at Rite Aid."

Last week, just after the Black Friday weekend, Rite Aid began two other holiday promotions for its website and its drug stores. Cyber Week offered special deals on common purchases at riteaidonlinestore.com, and Season of Savings enables members of the retailer's wellness+ loyalty program to earn instant rewards at its 4,700 brick-and-mortar stores.
