Supervalu, Aurora recognized for MTM

March 23rd, 2012

DES MOINES, Iowa – Supervalu Inc. and Aurora Pharmacies were honored for the performance of their medication therapy management (MTM) services in 2011 by the Outcomes MTM Network.

The Des Moines-based MTM program specialist said Thursday that Supervalu was named the "Top Large Pharmacy Chain" in the Outcomes MTM Network. Outcomes noted that 89% of Supervalu's more than 800 supermarket pharmacies participated in the MTM program last year and had a comprehensive medication review (CMR) acceptance rate of 76%.

Supervalu has participated in the Outcomes MTM program since 2006 and is the first pharmacy chain to fully integrate its dispensing software system with the Outcomes MTM platform, allowing for significant workflow efficiencies for its pharmacists, according to Outcomes.

"Pharmacy engagement in the delivery of MTM services reached its all-time high in 2011. There were several strong contenders for top large pharmacy chain, and we are pleased to award the honor to Supervalu," Dan Rodriguez, director of provider services for Outcomes, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Aurora was named as "Top Regional Pharmacy Chain," a new designation for 2011, Outcomes said, noting that the chain — with about 80 pharmacies, mainly in Wisconsin — showed its dedication to MTM and the positive impact its pharmacists have had on patient safety and health care costs in its move to implement the Outcomes MTM program for the Aurora employee population last year.

Outcomes also named 25 top individual MTM Centers, including locations from such chain drug retailers as Walgreens, Wegmans Food Markets, Kroger and Albertsons Sav-On.

To be eligible for selection, a pharmacy must have achieved a "Best in Class" designation from Outcomes while providing a wide range of covered services. Selection of Top MTM Centers is driven by factors including patients served, Targeted Intervention Program (TIP) metrics and CMR performance, Outcomes said.
