Navarro uses pink Rx caps to promote breast cancer awareness

October 23rd, 2012

MIAMI – Navarro Discount Pharmacy is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by putting pink prescription bottle caps on all prescriptions filled during October.

Navarro will use the pink Rx caps during October.

"As a community pharmacy, we are focused on supporting activities that educate women, families and children about a variety of health issues," Navarro executive vice president of pharmacy operations Albert Garcia said in a statement Tuesday.

With the use of the pink prescription container caps, Navarro also is taking the opportunity to remind women to be proactive in the fight against breast cancer by conducting self-examinations, since detecting the disease early greatly improves the chance of successful treament.

The Miami-area drug chain noted that breast cancer affects one in eight women and is the second-leading cancer killer of women in the United States, next to lung cancer.

"Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women of all races, including Hispanic origin populations," stated Cristy Leon-Rivero, vice president of marketing at Navarro.

Other breast cancer awareness organizations supported by Navarro include the Susan B. Komen Foundation and the Liga Contra el Cancer (The League Against Cancer).
