Shopko appoints merchandising chief as president
January 18th, 2013
GREEN BAY, Wis. – Shopko has promoted Jill Soltau to president and chief merchandising officer.
The food and drug retailer said Friday that in adding the president's title, Soltau will continue to direct Shopko's merchandising and product development while taking on oversight of marketing, e-commerce, inventory management and supply chain departments.
Shopko noted that the expanded role will enable Soltau to continue her focus on the development and implementation of the company's merchandising strategy across all of its formats — Shopko, Shopko Hometown and Shopko.com — as well as to blend branding and marketing strategy under her direction.
"Since joining Shopko, Jill has led the creation of Shopko's highly successful main store merchandising strategy and has been instrumental in the development of the company's growth vehicle, Shopko Hometown," Shopko interim chief executive officer and chief operating officer Mike Bettiga said in a statement. "Her promotion to president ensures that our merchandising and marketing strategies, as well as our business goals, are kept in the forefront and will continue to be successfully executed. We are excited to have her take an expanded leadership role at Shopko."
Soltau has more than 25 years of experience in the retail industry, according to Shopko. She joined Shopko in 2007 as senior vice president and general merchandise manager for apparel and accessories. In 2009, she was promoted to executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.
Last March, Shopko finalized its merger deal with Pamida, creating a chain drug retailer with nearly 300 pharmacy locations in more than 20 states. Overall, the retailer operates about 350 stores in 22 states throughout the Midwest, Mountain, North Central and Pacific Northwest regions.
The company's formats include 134 Shopko stores, five Shopko Express Rx stores, 16 Shopko Pharmacy locations and 176 Shopko Hometown stores.
