Stop & Shop, Giant launch prescription discount cards
May 29th, 2013
QUINCY, Mass., and LANDOVER, Md. – Stop & Shop and Giant Food of Landover, Md., have initiated prescription drug savings card programs.
The Ahold USA supermarket chains said this week that the card offers discounts for prescriptions not covered by insurance as well as personalized savings throughout the store on products that shoppers need to stay healthy.
With the Stop & Shop Prescription Savings Card and the Giant Prescription Savings Card, customers save on many brand-name and generic drugs and, for select generic medications, pay $3.99 for a 30-day supply and $9.99 for a 90-day supply.
The food and drug retailers said pharmacy and other savings will be offered to cardholders during select months throughout the year, including discounts on flu shots and diabetes testing supplies.
"We are committed to meeting our customers' health and wellness needs while offering outstanding value," Gayle Shields, director of pharmacy operations for Giant Food of Landover, said in a statement. "The Giant Prescription Savings Card will enable loyal customers to purchase the high-quality prescriptions and pet medications they need at a fraction of the price."
To sign up for the program, customers pay a one-time enrollment of $10 per household. Those that join receive $10 off a future grocery purchase (not available in New York or Rhode Island).
The prescription savings cards can be used at most Ahold USA supermarket pharmacies, including Giant Food Stores (Carlisle, Pa.) and Martin's Food Markets as well as Stop & Shop (except New Jersey) and Giant Food of Landover.
Stop & Shop has more than 400 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey, while Giant Food of Landover operates 171 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Most of the stores have pharmacies.
