Albertsons begins flu vaccine program

August 29th, 2013

BOISE, Idaho – Albertsons LLC has started offering flu shots without an appointment at its pharmacy locations.

The food and drug retailer said Wednesday that its certified immunizing pharmacists can administer the traditional seasonal flu vaccine, needle-free FluMist nasal spray, Fluzone Intradermal injection with a smaller needle, and the high-dose Fluzone HD vaccine (for patients ages 65 and older).

"A flu vaccine is one of the simplest steps that families can take to help protect themselves, their loved ones and friends during flu season," Dan Salemi, president of pharmacy operations, said in a statement. "Albertsons pharmacies have traditional flu vaccines and mists that will work for the majority of patients as well as high-dose vaccines for seniors, and our professional pharmacy team can administer your flu shot quickly and easily while you're doing your weekly shopping. Protecting your family has never been easier."

Traditional flu vaccines, Fluzone Intradermal and FluMist are priced at $29.99 each. Fluzone HD costs $59.99.

Overall, Albertsons has more than 600 supermarkets in 16 states.
