MinuteClinic affiliates with N.J. medical center
March 6th, 2014
WOONSOCKET, R.I. – MinuteClinic has entered a clinical collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJ) , a leading academic medical center and health network in New Jersey.
The CVS Caremark retail health clinic subsidiary said Thursday that through the affiliation, RWJ primary care providers will serve as collaborating physicians for MinuteClinic nurse practitioners in three CVS/pharmacy stores in East Brunswick, Old Bridge and Plainsboro, N.J.
MinuteClinic and RWJ also will collaborate on patient education and disease management initiatives and inform patients of the services that each offers. The collaboration, too, includes plans for future walk-in medical clinics in New Jersey's Middlesex and Mercer counties.
"Robert Wood Johnson is a significant addition to the list of clinical collaborations we have developed throughout the United States with large hospital networks, physician-led health systems, academic medical centers and community hospitals," MinuteClinic president Andrew Sussman, who's also senior vice president and associate chief medical officer at CVS Caremark, said in a statement. "We look forward to having RWJ physicians collaborate with MinuteClinic's nurse practitioners to provide quality support, teaching and backup so MinuteClinic can provide the best care at the lowest overall cost to New Jersey residents."
CVS Caremark noted that the affiliation is MinuteClinic's 32nd collaboration with a U.S. hospital or health system. The company has said MinuteClinic is slated to add 150 new clinics this year and have 1,500 overall by 2017. Currently, MinuteClinic has over 800 locations in 28 states and the District of Columbia.
RWJ includes a network of 1,300 physicians in central New Jersey and is rated as a top 10 institution for clinical quality.
"As we continue to move forward in the post-health care reform environment, a greater emphasis will be placed on prevention initiatives," stated Joshua Bershad, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. "Our partnership with MinuteClinic aligns perfectly with our mission of encouraging and promoting wellness in the communities served by our health system."
