Rexall adds to store base

March 17th, 2014

EDMONTON, Alberta – Rexall has expanded its reach with a pair of new drug stores in Alberta.

The Canadian drug chain on Friday opened a new store at Edmonton's Northgate Centre, which followed a new location that opened its doors last month in St. Albert, Alberta.

The 11,200-square-foot store at Northgate Centre gives Rexall two dozen locations in Edmonton. Designed to provide a "complete healthy living destination," the store features a full-service pharmacy, nutrition consultation, vitamin therapy, free prescription delivery, a refrigerated grocery section and a cosmetics department.

"Pharmacies are the face of neighborhood health care that can provide quick and convenient access to services and care for patients. That’s why we are committed to providing patients with a more complete and personalized health experience," Frank Scorpiniti, chief executive officer of Rexall, said in a statement. "Consumers also want more options for healthier choices, products that help make them feel good, and they want better value for their dollar. Our new store at Northgate, and all of our stores, will deliver exactly that."

The Northgate Centre's array of healthy products includes naturopathic and homeopathic items plus Rexall's Be.better private brand. The retailer said the 170 items were "carefully selected and designed to help Canadians live, feel and be better" and include healthier snack options, environmentally friendly cleaning products, gluten-free vitamins and vegetarian probiotics, as well as salon-quality hair care and skin care products with natural oils such as oblipicha, argan oil and macadamia nut.

"We're very excited to be opening this, our 24th store in the city of Edmonton," stated Paul Chidley, divisional vice president at Rexall. "Our newest store demonstrates our continued commitment to the health of the families in this area and the surrounding communities."

The 11,500-square-foot store in St. Albert marks Rexall's first location in that community, the drug chain reported. Like the new Edmonton store, the St. Albert location sports the retailer's new store format that brings a modern look and feel and a focus on healthy living, with a similar complement of pharmacy and front-end offerings.

"We're very excited to be opening the doors of our newest store, right here in St. Albert," Chidley commented when the store opened last month. "We think that customers and patients will appreciate the convenience and ease of access we offer and will also be able to take advantage of the fact that Rexall is a complete healthy daily living destination and offers a personalized health care experience."

Overall, Rexall has 454 pharmacies under the Rexall and Rexall Pharma Plus banners in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories.
