First Brunet Target affiliated pharmacies open in Quebec

May 1st, 2014

MONTREAL – Target Canada announced that the first two Brunet Target affiliated pharmacies have opened inside the Brossard and Sainte-Dorothée, Quebec, Target stores.

This year, 18 Brunet Target openings are planned.

Target Canada said Thursday that, as previously announced, 18 pharmacies operated by pharmacist-owners affiliated with Brunet will open at Target stores across Quebec this year.

For the Canadian market, Target is using a franchise model for pharmacies, and a similar model will be used in Quebec with Brunet. The pharmacies will carry Target brands such as up & up and give customers access to prescription, pharmacy and health consultation services.

In addition, patients will get access to Brunet's MaSanté online tool, which provides personalized options to access their file online.

"Health care is an integral part of the Target brand experience, and the newly opened Brunet Target affiliated pharmacies enable us to deliver superior, patient-focused healthcare to our guests across Quebec," Jeff May, director of health care operations for Target Canada, said in a statement. "Target is proud of its unique co-branding concept with Brunet, a well-established and highly respected banner in Quebec, which will enhance the guest experience."

The Brunet Target openings come in the wake of last year's announcement of a partnership between Target and McMahon Distributeur Pharmaceutique Inc., a Metro Inc. subsidiary, for the operation of pharmacies at most Target stores in Quebec. Under the agreement, Brunet is responsible for recruiting pharmacists, providing owner-pharmacists with technology and other patient systems, and providing supply chain and inventory management services.

"We are excited with the opening of the first Brunet Target affiliated pharmacies in Quebec and that our pharmacists' knowledge and expertise will be offered to Target guests," stated Luc Martinovitch, vice president and general manager at McMahon Distributeur Pharmaceutique. "Target is one of the strongest retail brands in North America, and we're thrilled to be working with them on this unique concept."

McMahon operates a network of nearly 200 pharmacies in Quebec under the Brunet, Brunet Plus, Brunet Clinique, Clini Plus and Brunet Target banners.
