NACDS elects new officers; Standley becomes chairman

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – John Standley, chairman and chief executive officer of Rite Aid Corp., was elected as the chairman of the board of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores during the NACDS Annual Meeting here.
Standley, named to the post as NACDS selected its slate of new officers and board members, succeeds Bob Narveson, president and CEO of Thrifty White Pharmacy, as NACDS chairman.
Juan Ortiz, CEO of Navarro Discount Pharmacy, was elected vice chairman of NACDS, and Randy Edeker, chairman and CEO of Hy-Vee Inc., was elected treasurer.
"It is a pleasure to welcome John Standley as the new chairman of the NACDS board of directors," NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson said in a statement on Monday. "In his role as vice chairman of the board and chairman of the NACDS Political Action Committee (PAC), John has demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to the industry and to NACDS."
In addition to the election of the new officers for one-year terms, the NACDS board elected Edeker as a new Executive Committee member.
Three new board members were also elected: Carmen Bauza, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of health and wellness at Walmart; Daniel Salemi, president of pharmacy division for New Albertsons Inc.; and J.K. Symancyk, president of Meijer Inc.
The new board members will join the other 21 members of the NACDS board develop the association's policies and priorities.
