PharmaSmart BP kiosks deployed at Kinney Drugs
May 1st, 2013
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – PharmaSmart International Inc. has rolled out its blood pressure screening kiosks at all Kinney Drugs stores.
PharmaSmart said Wednesday that the deployment to Kinney's 97 stores in upstate New York and Vermont also marks a milestone: the first major launch from its new, 53,000-square-foot global headquarters in Rochester, N.Y.
With PharmaSmart's integrated blood pressure kiosks and screening program, Kinney pharmacists will be able to conduct timely reviews with patients who don't have their blood pressure controlled, helping them achieve better health outcomes.
"In this era of personalized medicine, the role of the pharmacist continues to expand as a health care provider," Mike Duteau, vice president of pharmacy operations at Governeur, N.Y.-based Kinney Drugs, said in a statement. "The PharmaSmart kiosk technology is a valuable new frontline tool to assist our patients and pharmacists with their efforts to maintain healthy blood pressure and prevent heart disease and strokes."
PharmaSmart reported that its BP kiosk network has gathered and stored over 16 million patient readings on its proprietary PS DataSmart Health IT Server. The company added that the PharmaSmart Smart Card also is listed on multiple national compendia and has become an element of disease prevention programs and pharmacy services remuneration.
"Our partnership with Kinney Drugs delivers proof that the traditional drug store can deliver innovative services to address the challenge of chronic disease and spiraling health care costs," stated Ashton Maaraba, chief operations officer at PharmaSmart. "We are thrilled to be working with Kinney as they promote traditional core values and demonstrate outstanding execution for top-line pharmacy services.
Last year, 70 million Americans didn't have their blood pressure controlled, a figure described as "staggering" by Maaraba. "Pharmacy chains like Kinney Drugs and Bartell Drugs have partnered with PharmaSmart to address this chronic issue," he added.
Seattle-based Bartell Drugs rolled out PharmaSmart kiosks to its 58 stores in the Puget Sound, Wash., area earlier this year.
