ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — Miles White, chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The pharmaceutical and health care products company said Tuesday that White will be inducted at a ceremony on Oct. 1 at the academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.
White will join one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies — made up of some of the world’s most accomplished leaders in academia, business, public affairs, the humanities and the arts. Also a leading center for independent policy research, the society counts more than 250 Nobel laureates and over 60 Pulitzer Prize winners among its current membership.

According to Abbott, White is the longest-tenured CEO in the pharmaceutical industry and over the past 12 years has transformed the company into a broad-based health care provider focused on high-growth, innovation-driven markets. He has been included on Barron’s list of "Most Respected CEOs" for three straight years and is active in a variety of business and civic roles.
