NEW YORK — AcneFree, a L’Oreal skincare brand, has partnered with actress, musician and Instagram influencer Laura Marano to promote acne education to the 21 million teens in the U.S. who suffer from acne and occasional breakouts. With the shared goal of normalizing acne as the common condition it is, they will work together to offer information, advice and expertise through their social channels, arming sufferers with the knowledge they need to gain confidence and put their best face forward. She will also be starring in AcneFree campaign videos that will underscore the importance of balanced care when treating oily and acne prone skin.
Laura Marano
Known for her roles in the award-winning movie Lady Bird and television’s Austin & Ally, Laura has grown up in the public eye, experiencing many private moments in front of the camera. She understands firsthand the emotional impact of acne, having suffered with it since adolescence.
“I am beyond happy to start working with AcneFree. As someone who has gone to multiple dermatologists and tried many different products, I know firsthand what it’s like to have breakouts and not know how to fix them. It’s overwhelming and embarrassing when my skin has an outbreak, especially when I post a photo on social media and people make negative comments about it,” says Laura Marano. “That’s why I was excited when AcneFree approached me. They’re all about education to help us make the right decisions to treat – and care – for our skin, and that philosophy of empowerment really resonated with me.”
While Generation Z are digital natives, it can be tough to navigate through the multitude of information available at their fingertips. Eighty percent of teens struggle with acne, yet many are unaware of the triggers, medications, ingredients and regimens to help achieve and maintain healthy-looking, clear skin. “There are a lot of myths and misinformation out there,” says Carole Diarra, Brand Vice President for AcneFree. “We are excited to work with Laura to clear up confusion and become a trusted source to a younger generation, advocating for dermatologist-inspired products and reliable, honest advice about acne.
During the next year, Laura will play an integral role in the brand’s efforts to reach Gen Z and millennials, encouraging them to ’embrace their face’ – pimples and all. AcneFree hopes to promote self-love of one’s skin so that teenagers approach their skincare regimen positively and holistically – treating their outbreaks while caring for their skin to maintain its health. “I’m not perfect when it comes to caring for my skin. I’ve worked out and fallen asleep in my makeup, and I’ve paid the price for it with blemishes,” says Laura. “I now know the importance of a daily routine to maintain a clearer complexion while also caring for it. I’m excited to be on this mission with AcneFree to normalize acne because almost all of us get it, so let’s make sure we’re all well versed on how to treat it.”
With a new website, packaging and products, AcneFree makes finding the right treatments even more accessible. The treat and care philosophy is pivotal. “The most important factor in dealing with acne is to care for the health of the skin, in addition to treating the acne itself,” says New York City Dermatologist Joshua Zeichner MD. “Each patient is different, so the regimen must be personalized to their individual needs.”
To that end, AcneFree is launching three new products that help treat and care for skin:
- AcneFree Witch Hazel Mattifying Toner: Formulated with concentrated Witch Hazel, Glycolic Acid & Aloe Vera to remove excess oil, dirt and shine, this toner helps balance the pH levels of your skin and to prepare it for additional treatments.
- AcneFree Blackhead Removing Scrub with Charcoal: With Salicylic Acid, Charcoal and Jojoba to exfoliate, draw out impurities and soothe the skin, this scrub is proven to provide a clearer complexion in just seven days
- AcneFree Kaolin Clay Detox Mask: With Kaolin Clay, Charcoal, Zinc and Glycolic Acid, this makes is a powerful pore-purifier, functioning as both a daily oil absorbing cleanser and a detoxing mask
