CVS Health Foundation and AACP continue program to reduce barriers for student pharmacists

Scholarships will help reduce financial barriers for student pharmacists.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) announced that the CVS Health/AACP Community Pharmacy Award will be awarded to 21 outstanding student pharmacists who face financial barriers in pursuit of education. Students must be enrolled in their first (P1) or second (P2) year of the professional phase of the Pharm.D. degree program during the 2025-2026 academic year at an AACP member institution. Selected awardees must demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy and patient care, which is especially important in underserved communities. Each awardee will receive a single $20,000 scholarship funded by the CVS Health Foundation.

"As an organization committed to its core values of inclusiveness and a shared responsibility to improve healthcare and health outcomes, we are proud to support the CVS Health/AACP Community Pharmacy Award,” said Lee Vermeulen, executive vice president and CEO of AACP. “By empowering students who are passionate about improving healthcare access in all communities, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow who will drive meaningful change and innovation in health systems.”

The CVS Health/AACP Community Pharmacy Award aims to reduce financial barriers for student pharmacists in pursuit of a Pharm.D. degree and supports students who will care for the needs of patients as part of a health care team. Those selected must demonstrate leadership, academic success, financial need and a commitment to advancing the profession and improving the well-being of individual patients in communities across the United States.

“Community pharmacy is more important than ever in health care, especially in underserved or rural areas, and we are committed to supporting, training and developing the next generation of pharmacists who will be integral to delivering local, accessible care,” said Len Shankman, executive vice president and president Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness, CVS Health. “This scholarship program is just one way that we’re helping create more opportunities for students who choose to pursue a career in pharmacy and to make an impact on public health.”
