BOISE, Idaho —  Albertsons Cos. pharmacies are alerting U.S. communities that all 1,700 plus locations across the U.S. are stocked with the flu vaccine and ready to immunize for the 2019-20 flu season. With flu season just around the corner, getting the flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available is the best way to prevent getting and spreading the flu virus.

The flu is a contagious disease that circulates in the United States typically between the months of October and May and spreads through coughing, sneezing, and close contact. The flu vaccine helps protect individuals and those around them from the 3-4 most common flu viruses, which can cause possible severe symptoms, flu-related complications, and hospitalization. People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions, and individuals ages 65 and up. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older, with rare exceptions, to get an annual flu vaccination as soon as it is accessible.

No appointment is necessary to get the flu shot at Albertsons Companies pharmacies. Flu and other vaccines, as permitted per state law, can be administered on a “walk-in” basis and are offered at more than 1,700 Albertsons Companies pharmacy locations, including those in Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen, and Carrs stores. Albertsons Companies pharmacists are available to help consult with patients about their specific health conditions and recommend the appropriate formulation of flu vaccine for each member of their family.

The flu shot is free with most insurance, so there is no co-payment unless required by the plan. Everyone who receives an immunization will also receive a coupon for 10% off their next grocery purchase, where permitted by law.
