BATAVIA, Ill. – Aldi has announced plans to open more than 225 new stores in 2025, marking the most openings in a year in the company’s nearly 50-year U.S. history. This move is part of Aldi’s ongoing five-year national growth strategy, which aims to provide more customers with up to 36% savings on their grocery shopping.

The expansion will be achieved by combining organic growth with the conversion of certain Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations. Aldi plans to convert approximately 220 Southeastern Grocers stores to its format by 2027. Furthermore, the company has finalized the sale of around 170 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations to a consortium that includes C&S Wholesale Grocers, Southeastern Grocers' senior leadership, and private investors.

Southeastern Grocers and C&S Wholesale Grocers purchase Winn-Dixie from Aldi
Aldi and SEG leadership have pledged to work closely together to ensure a seamless transition.

"When we announced our acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, we committed to keeping a significant number of Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations operational, and we're delivering on that promise while driving Aldi's expansion," said Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi. "We’re confident that C&S Wholesale Grocers and Southeastern Grocers will lead their company successfully into its next chapter."

Aldi plans to convert 100 Southeastern Grocers stores to its brand by the end of 2025. In addition, Aldi will expand its footprint beyond the Southeast, increasing its presence in the Northeast, Midwest, Southern California, and Arizona and making its debut in Las Vegas.

"As grocery prices continue to impact shoppers, Aldi remains committed to providing the best value," added Hart. "We are building trust with customers across the country and solidifying our position as America's go-to grocery destination."

In 2024, Aldi launched almost 120 new stores, increasing its total in the U.S. to more than 2,400, which positions it as the third-largest grocery chain nationally. This success is mirrored in its expanding customer base, with one in four American households shopping at Aldi—twice the number from six years prior.
