CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. and Supervalu Inc.’s Save-A-Lot supermarket chain have launched all of the locations for their 10-store pilot test of a co-branded pharmacy/grocery format in the Greenville, S.C., area.
The drug store chain said Thursday that four more Save-A-Lot Food Stores/Rite Aid Pharmacy co-branded stores have opened: two in Simpsonville, S.C., and one each in Greer and Travelers Rest, S.C.
Five co-branded stores were opened in Greenville on Oct. 11, and the first Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid location was opened in Easley, S.C., on Sept. 27.
"Our new co-branded concept has been very well-received in the Greenville area, and we are pleased to bring the value and convenience of this new store to more locations," Rite Aid chief operating officer Ken Martindale said in a statement. "Customers comment how great it is to be able to get high-quality grocery products at great prices at the same time they shop for Rite Aid health and beauty aids and visit their neighborhood Rite Aid pharmacist."
Under the licensing agreement with Save-A-Lot announced in early September, Rite Aid added the Supervalu chain’s discount, limited-assortment grocery concept to 10 Rite Aid drug stores in the Greenville market. The test stores continue to be owned and operated by Rite Aid.
About 75% of the nonpharmacy part of each store is devoted to Save-A-Lot, which offers a limited selection of fresh meat, processed smoked and packaged meat, fresh produce, frozen food, dairy and dry groceries at prices up to 40% lower than conventional supermarkets. Grocery products include both Save-A-Lot exclusive brands and national brands. The Rite Aid area of the co-branded stores continues to offer a wide range of health and beauty products, including national and Rite Aid private brands.
