HOUSTON — Allpoint Network now has surcharge-free ATMs at nearly 7,000 Walgreens locations nationwide, including for the first time in Alaska, Michigan and Nebraska.
The Cardtronics subsidiary said that, since late 2016, it has added Allpoint ATMs at about 2,000 Walgreens locations in key metropolitan areas across the country, including at Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in New York City at Walgreens stores in Chicago.
Before Alaska, Michigan and Nebraska, other states seeing first-time Allpoint ATM deployments at Walgreens stores included Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana and Utah.
“Our Allpoint surcharge-free ATM network, featuring an unrivaled scale and density of high-quality retail locations like Walgreens, is increasingly being embraced as the perfect cash access complement to the digital strategy of banks and credit unions of all sizes, Brian Bailey, managing director for North America at Cardtronics, said in a statement.
Allpoint-eligible cardholders can find the nearest Allpoint surcharge-free ATM using the Allpoint ATM locator app.
While consumers are embracing digital payment tools, they still want the option to pay in cash, Allpoint noted, citing findings from its latest Cardtronics Health of Cash survey.
The poll of 1,000 U.S. adults found that 82% would miss cash if it went away, even though 89% like being able to use a variety of payment methods. What’s more, 66% of consumers think payments are moving too fast toward digital methods, and 61% acknowledged that they get upset when establishments don’t accept cash.
“In this era of bank transformation, it remains crucial to have the right physical presence in the right places to meet customer needs,” Bailey added. “The Allpoint Network provides the high-value physical network that empowers financial institutions to focus on their digital initiatives while still providing the convenient, surcharge-free cash access their cardholders demand.”
Overall, the Allpoint Network has more than 55,000 ATMs at national and regional merchant locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom and Australia. Besides Walgreens, U.S. mass retail chains with Allpoint ATMs include CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Kroger, Target, Costco, Safeway, Winn-Dixie and Circle K.
