LOUISVILLE, Ky. — AmerisourceBergen Corp. has become the new pharmaceuticals distributor for Humana Pharmacy Solutions.
Humana said Thursday that under the agreement, Valley Forge, Pa.-based AmerisourceBergen will be its primary wholesaler for drug purchasing. The five-year pact goes into effect on May 1.
According to the pharmacy benefit management provider, the deal enhances its ability to meet the rising demand from members and employer clients for prescription drugs delivered by Humana’s specialty and mail-order pharmacies. The agreement also expands Humana members’ access to generic equivalents of popular branded drugs, aligning with the PBM’s generic drug sourcing strategy and promotion of generic drug use.
"AmerisourceBergen shares Humana’s philosophy of working to reduce costs while improving patient outcomes," stated William Fleming, vice president of Humana Pharmacy Solutions. "With this agreement, we’ll be able to offer members and employers access to more cost-effective generic versions of clinically proven and popular brand-name drugs."
