VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen Corp. chief executive officer R. David Yost plans to retire from the company on July 1.
Steve Collis, who has been AmerisourceBergen’s president and chief operating officer since November, has been named to succeed Yost as the company’s top executive.
“Ten years after we announced the merger that created AmerisourceBergen, I am announcing my plans to retire,” Yost says. “With our strong position in the growth areas of the pharmaceutical supply chain, generics and specialty pharmaceuticals, the company is exceptionally well positioned for continued success, and the company’s future has never been brighter.
“I am confident that with Steve’s leadership AmerisourceBergen will take full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Yost, who will be 64 later this year, says that after 37 years with AmerisourceBergen and its predecessor, AmeriSource Health Corp., it was time to step away. “There are many things I’d like to do with my wife, family and grandchildren and other interests I would like to pursue while I’m still in good health,” he comments.
During his combined 14 years at the helm of AmerisourceBergen and AmeriSource Health, Yost played a major role in positioning the company in the growth areas of the pharmaceutical supply chain, generics and specialty pharmaceuticals. He was a major force in merging AmeriSource with BergenBrunswig Corp. in 2001 to form the industry’s third-largest pharmaceutical wholesaler.
Collis, 49, has been with AmerisourceBergen since 1994. During that time he has held a variety of positions, and until his promotion to chief operating officer in November he was executive vice president of AmerisourceBergen and president of AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. (ABDC), the company’s largest subsidiary.
