PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — Artic Ease is rolling out its cold therapy compression wrap nationwide via distribution to more than 7,400 CVS/pharmacy drug stores.

Describing its product as "revolutionary," the company said Thursday that the Artic Ease wrap — without ice or refrigeration — reduces swelling and inflammation and treats injuries, aches and pains by cooling skin to an optimal healing temperature of just over 59 degrees.

Employing a proprietary thermodynamic technology, Artic Ease absorbs heat from the body through a patented blend of custom-woven cotton substrates, water and inert materials that remain cool to the touch, providing three hours of therapy, according to the company. The product is applied like a common compression wrap.

Artic Ease noted that its wrap is as safe as — and perhaps safer than — an ice pack because it stays just above 59 degrees, the ideal temperature that promotes healing without triggering the body’s defense mechanisms. The product also contains nothing that’s absorbed through the skin, the company added. And unlike ice bags and cold compresses, Arctic Ease can be worn under clothing, while wearing shoes or when on the go.

Providing both cryotherapy and compression at the same time, Arctic Ease wraps can be reused eight to 10 times with proper care, and they can be used before, during and after exercise, the company said. The wraps are odorless and contain no additives, medications, menthol or alcohol.

Arctic Ease wraps come in five colors: blue, black, pink, tan and red. In addition to CVS, the product is available at such drug and food chains as Medicap Pharmacy, Kinney Drugs, Medicine Shoppe, USA Drug, Acme Markets, Albertsons, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Giant, Giant Eagle, Jewel-Osco and Stop & Shop, as well as other retailers.
