VISTA, Calif. — Astroglide has launched Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel, described as a thicker personal lubricant that’s formulated without common ingredients known to irritate sensitive skin.

BioFilm Inc., the maker of Astroglide, said Tuesday that Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel is free from alcohol, glycerin, fragrances and parabens, which have been found to cause irritation among those with sensitivities.

Available in a three-ounce tube, the new formula also contains aloe vera and chamomile flower extract. The ultra-gentle lubricant also has been allergy tested and dermatologist reviewed, according to the company.

The International Society of Dermatology reports that nearly 50% of the total American population, over 132 million people, suffers from skin sensitivity, with more women suffering from this affliction than men, BioFilm said.

Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel is designed to address the needs of people who have never tried a personal lubricant because of sensitivity concerns or who have stopped using personal lubricants because of irritation, the company noted.

"Approximately 45% of personal lubricant sales are gel formulas. We wanted to provide our users a great gel option that is very gentle and made with natural ingredients," stated Lisa O’Carroll, chief executive officer of BioFilm.
