SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs is headlong into its annual campaign to generate donations to provide school supplies and personal care items to local students in need.

Through Aug. 28, donations of basic school supplies and hygiene products can be made at all of Bartell’s 64 stores. Dubbed School Tools, the school supplies drive is being done in partnership with Seattle radio station Star 101.5 and Federal Way, Wash.-based global charity World Vision.

The Seattle-area drug chain said customers also can donate money for the effort at bartellsschooltools.com as well as through a text-to-give option. To donate $10.00 via text message, they can text “SCHOOL” to 777444.

The initiative supports students in 160 schools in Washington’s King, Pierce and Snohomish counties via World Vision’s Teacher Resource Center in Fife. Donated items help restock the center, where teachers “shop” free for supplies to assist qualifying students. Bartell said that, according to World Vision, as many as 58,000 local students could begin the school year without the basic school supplies.

School supplies available at Bartell Drugs stores for donation include pens and No. 2 pencils, glue and glue sticks, markers and crayons, highlighters, notebook paper and spiral notebooks. Other needed items include scissors, toothbrushes, hand soap, shampoo and feminine care products.
