SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs staged a Health and Beauty Event featuring health screenings, free “mini-makeovers,” hairstyling tips and giveaways of products from cosmetics to specialty food items to candles.

The event, which ran from March 21 through April 3 at selected outlets in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, Wash., featured discounted or free screenings at 10 stores.

Services included blood glucose testing, LifeScan OneTouch blood glucose meter exchanges and education, cholesterol testing, bone density screenings for osteoporosis, and blood pressure testing for hypertension.

The event also offered mobile digital mammography screenings from March 15 through April 8 at 16 Bartell units in tandem with Evergreen Hospital Medical Center.

Bartell and Evergreen have teamed up to provide the screenings to support early detection of breast cancer. Using the same digital mammography equipment as that at the Breast Cancer Center at the hospital, the mobile unit includes private changing rooms and analysis by board-certified breast radiologists. On-site Evergreen staff members accept Medicare and most insurance plans.

At 20 Bartell stores cosmetologists gave the mini-makeovers, showcasing the newest products from Revlon Inc. and L’Oréal, including its Maybelline New York subsidiary. The makeovers focused on the latest colors and products for spring.

In addition, at the event Conair Corp. hosted hairstyling demonstrations spotlighting the latest tools and tips.

Among the products given away were items from omega-3 fish oil and essential fatty acid supplier Nordic Naturals Inc., Banana Boat products from Sun Pharmaceuticals LLC, items from Colgate-Palmolive Co. and Biotrue multipurpose lens care solution from Bausch + Lomb. Coupons were also distributed.
