IRVINE, Calif. — ChromaDex Corp. has landed retail distribution for its BluScience line of dietary supplements with Walgreen Co. and its drugstore.com online subsidiary.

The natural products company said this week that Walgreens, which has more than 7,800 drug stores, will carry BluScience HeartBlu and EternalBlu supplements by the end of the first quarter and the brand’s MemoryBlu and Blu2Go by the end of the second quarter.

According to ChromaDex, the pact with Walgreens marks the first rollout of BluScience at retail mass merchants since the initial launch of the supplement line at GNC stores in July 2011.

Drugstore.com now carries three BluScience SKUs — HeartBlu, which helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels and supports cardiovascular health; EternalBlu, which supports cellular health and brings anti-aging properties; and Blu2Go, which provides a sustained energy boost and supports focus and mental clarity, ChromaDex said.

"Earlier this week, BluScience became available for sale at one of the largest retail drug store chains," stated William Spengler, president of ChromaDex. "The addition of drugstore.com means that three major retailers are now stocking BluScience SKUs. We expect BluScience to be available in more than 25,000 retail stores by year-end 2012, as well as through major online retailers."

The key ingredient in BluScience is ChromaDex’s proprietary, patent-pending pterostilbene, branded as pTeroPure — a nature-identical formulation of the antioxidant compound pterostilbene, which is found naturally in blueberries. ChromaDex said pterostilbene has superior biological activity and better oral bioavailability and metabolizes more slowly in the body than other polyphenols, allowing more time for its antioxidant activities to act. The company noted that pterostilbene also has shown promise for supporting cardiovascular health, cognitive function and anti-aging.

ChromaDex said it’s also developing pTeroPure for the skin care and pharmaceutical markets and that the ingredient is being studied in a human clinical trial at the University of Mississippi.
