SAINT-BRUNO-DE-MONTARVILLE, Quebec — Boiron Laboratories has unveiled a partnership with the Montreal Canadiens for National Hockey League team’s 2010-11 season.
The homeopathic medicine supplier said Tuesday that its association with the Canadiens franchise highlights its flagship Oscillococcinum over-the-counter flu remedy and reflects a rising trend among consumers for more natural and environment-friendly medications.
"We are proud to join forces with the Montreal Canadiens hockey team and offer consumers a safe and natural medicine," Boiron Canada chief executive officer Majid Djoudi said in a statement. "When a hockey player has an important match to play and shows flu symptoms, taking Oscillo will relieve his symptoms within 48 hours."
According to Boiron, Oscillococcinum is intended to be taken at the first sign of flu symptoms and works effectively against chills, fever, muscles aches and headaches to help users recover quickly. The company said the medicine has no side effects, drug interaction issues and contraindications and won’t cause drowsiness. It’s also safe for all people, including pregnant and breastfeeding women, seniors and high-risk patients as well as children, Boiron noted.
The results of a clinical trial involving 372 flu sufferers published in the British Homeopathic Journal showed that 62.9% of patients who used Oscillococcinum had no symptoms or saw clear improvement after 48 hours, compared to 48.5% in the placebo group, Boiron added.
"The Montreal Canadiens are an icon and have been part of Canada’s history for over 100 years, being one of the most prize-winning franchises. When they approached Boiron Laboratories to partner with this prestigious institution for season the 2010-2011, I readily accepted," commented Djoudi.
