SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — Bruce Kneeland, also known as, The Road Trip Guy, just announced plans for his 12th pharmacy road trip. This trip, named; Five Fine Pharmacies in Southern California, will take place May 5th – the 9th. .
According to Kneeland, this trip, like all the previous ones will allow him to visit the carefully selected pharmacies and interview the owners or senior managers. The goal of each interview is to learn first-hand about some of the things these pharmacies are doing that sets them apart from the competition and allows them to achieve more than average success. From these visits and interviews he will compile an official report and share it with other pharmacy owners in a feature article to be published in a major pharmacy journal this summer.
Kneeland estimates the trip will cover about 1800 miles as he’ll depart from his home in the greater Salt Lake area and drive to the area and then make trips to each store over the course of his stay in the Los Angeles area.
The five pharmacies to be visited were nominated by the two companies sponsoring the trip. They were each chosen based on their doing something new, better or different than the average pharmacy. One sponsor is K&B Pharmacy Associates, an independent pharmacy Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) with nearly 300 members in 12 states. Robert Ojeda, President of K&B says they are eager for Kneeland to complete the trip and he looks forward to the report Kneeland will write and share with the industry.
The second sponsor, digitalRx, a pharmacy management system (PMS) company with more than 1000 users in 20 states. Yasser Roushdy, CEO of digitalRx says his company is eager for Kneeland to share the ideas, success tips and tactics these five pharmacies use and hopes the information will inspire many pharmacy owners to try something new.
Kneeland took his first, and most ambitious road trip in 2008. It saw him drive coast-to-coast, starting in New Jersey and ending in San Francisco. In 18 days he and his wife visited 30 cutting edge pharmacies. The articles and live CE presentations on the trip garnered a lot of attention and spawned many others over the next 17 years.
On a personal level Kneeland is especially excited about this trip. The geographic area to be covered, the eastern suburbs of Los Angeles, is where he grew up. He says 3 of the 5 pharmacies to be visited, Alhambra, San Gabriel and El Monte are towns where he went to grade, junior and senior high school. “This is sort of a going back to my roots experience. I can’t wait to see what these five remarkable pharmacies are doing that enables their success,” Kneeland says.
