PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Camber Pharmaceuticals has launched esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules, a medication for heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Camber said its product, available in strengths of 20 mg and 40 mg, is a generic version of Nexium capsules from AstraZeneca.
A proton pump inhibitor (PPI), esomeprazole lowers the amount of acid produced in the stomach. The drug also is used in the treatment of stomach ulcers and a damaged esophagus.
Esomeprazole is available from Camber in 30-, 90- and 1,000-count bottles for both strengths.
“Esomeprazole represents another very significant product in the growth of our organization” stated Kon Ostaficiuk, president of Camber. “Our parent company, Hetero Labs, has received final approval for the esomeprazole ANDA from the U.S. FDA and has invested in the technology used to manufacture this challenging product, and the results are reflected the scale of our capacities. We are happy that patients have a more affordable treatment option.”
