LINTHICUM, Md. — Care Pharmacies is getting ready to transition to a new pharmacy system.

The regional drug chain said Monday that in October it will begin deployment of the PDX Enterprise Pharmacy System (EPS).

Michael Wysong, chief executive officer of Care Pharmacies, based in Linthicum, Md., noted that the PDX platform will enable Care pharmacists to provide more health care services.

"We are excited to partner with PDX. Their innovative pharmacy system provides an advanced, integrated platform needed by our pharmacies," Wysong said in a statement. "EPS will allow Care pharmacists to go beyond filling prescriptions and expand their role as health care providers while meeting the dynamic and challenging needs of their patients."

A member-owned cooperative of independent community pharmacies and specialty pharmacies, Care has approximately 85 locations in 10 states and the District of Columbia.

"Care Pharmacies have their ear to the ground, totally connected to their local communities’ health care needs," stated Jeff Farris, CEO of Forth Worth, Texas-based PDX Inc. "Our suite of products and services — including our Enterprise Pharmacy System (EPS), Electronic Pharmacy Record (EPR) and our new Care Rx application — fit perfectly with their patient-centric focus."
