DUBUQUE, Iowa — Charlie Hartig has been named chief executive officer of Hartig Drug Co.

Charlie Hartig is a veteran of companies including CVS Health, Omnicare, and Express Scripts. As senior legal counsel with CVS, he advised senior management on pharmacy operations. While at CVS and Omnicare, he led initiatives to expand the scope of pharmacists’ practice and their immunization authority, and ensure continued compliance with applicable health care laws.
“I am excited and honored to take on this role in our family business and to continue to support Hartig Drug Company, its mission, and the local tri-state communities that we serve,” stated Hartig. He said he looks forward to expanding the chain’s health care offerings, “focus on pharmacy clinical services, and continue to expand local goods in our retail locations.”
Company chairman Richard Hartig credited outgoing CEO Keith Bibelhausen with playing a large part at the retailer the last several years, thanking him “for his time, energy and service.”
This planned transition is part of Hartig long-term strategic goals, said the chairman. “Charlie’s past experience with the largest pharmacy industry company in the country has and will continue to be an advantage,” he said. “We are happy and excited to have him back in the tri-state area and he will be instrumental in growing Hartig Drug Company as the local chain expands its physical footprint and health care offerings in the tri-state area.”
