CHPA announces senior management changes to communications department and educational foundation

WASHINGTON – The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today announced senior staff changes to its Communications Department and Educational Foundation. Mike Tringale has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, and Mary Leonard has been promoted to Executive Director of CHPA’s Educational Foundation.

Tringale, who joined CHPA in 2016, brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare communications, public affairs, marketing, and research. In his new role, Tringale will lead CHPA’s communications and public affairs function, which includes media relations, corporate communications, and public affairs strategy. In his previous role as CHPA’s vice president of communications and public affairs, he directed CHPA communications on key issues ranging from medication disposal, over-the-counter (OTC) and dietary supplement regulatory reform, HSA/FSA eligibility for consumer healthcare products, sustainability, and more. Tringale also helped to lead several CHPA ingredient task groups and working groups involving acetaminophen, pseudoephedrine, dextromethorphan, loperamide, sunscreen ingredients, dietary supplements, and others. He has also led CHPA’s Public Affairs and Communications Committee and the Dietary Supplement Communications Committee for the past several years and leads communications for CHPA’s consumer medical devices workstream priorities.

Leonard, who joined CHPA in 2011, has been an integral part of CHPA’s Educational Foundation (CHPAEF) since 2017, having previously served as the association’s director of marketing communications and as a marketing manager since 2011. As our Foundation’s new Executive Director, Leonard will lead CHPA’s philanthropic arm to achieve its mission to empower consumers to choose and use self-care products safely and effectively. Leonard brings nearly 20 years of experience in marketing communications and non-profit expertise to this role, with the past seven years dedicated exclusively to the CHPAEF in a variety of roles. Through her work at the Foundation, Leonard oversaw many of the organization’s award-winning public health education campaigns, partnership development efforts to advance self-care literacy, and fundraising events, including the launch of its highly successful annual fundraising Gala and U.S. Self-Care Marketing Awards program. She also leads the Foundation’s flagship campaignsKnow Your Dose and Up and Away, in collaboration with more than 20 healthcare organizations, regulatory agencies, and public health experts.
