WASHINGTON — The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) issued the following statement Wednesday following the introduction of S. 2740, the Over-the-Counter Monograph Safety, Innovation, and Reform Act, sponsored by Senators Johnny Isakson (R, Ga.) and Bob Casey (D,Pa.):

“CHPA thanks Senators Isakson and Casey for reintroducing this important bipartisan legislation which would modernize the regulatory system overseeing the majority of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. If enacted, the bill would make important improvements to the OTC Monograph system, helping to increase efficiency and transparency, while providing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the authority and resources it needs to continue protecting and advancing the public health.

“This bipartisan legislation enjoys the support of a diverse coalition of stakeholders representing the regulatory, public health, and industry sectors. We look forward to the Senate HELP Committee markup tomorrow and hope to see the bill advance in the near future.”
