TREVOSE, Pa. — Clarion Brands has expanded its over-the-counter health product lineup with the acquisition of the Florajen probiotic brand.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Clarion said Tuesday that the purchase of Florajen, marketed by American Lifeline Inc., now gives it three No. 1 professionally recommended brands.

Florajen is billed as the No. 1 pharmacist-recommended probiotic brand, while Clarion describes its Lipo-Flavonoid product as the No. 1 ENT doctor-recommended OTC remedy for tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and its Certain Dri product as the No. 1 doctor-recommended OTC treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating).

“Florajen is the perfect addition to our portfolio,” stated Gary Downing, chief executive officer of Clarion Brands. “We have a longstanding history of partnering with health care professionals to provide consumers with trusted solutions to their everyday health needs, and Florajen represents both an exciting and strategic next step for us.”

A high-potency probiotic dietary supplement, Florajen contains high concentrations of the same beneficial microorganisms that occur naturally in healthy people to help maintain the balance of flora in the intestinal tract, according to Clarion. The company said Florajen supplements can be used to help avoid side effects from antibiotics as well as to aid in digestive health.

The product line includes Florajen3, a blend of three probiotic cultures; Florajen Acidophilus, for maintaining intestinal and vaginal health; and Florajen4Kids, a multiculture probiotic for children of all ages.

“The founders of Florajen have created a remarkably effective product with demonstrated success in helping consumers of all ages maintain the natural microbial balance the body needs to stay healthy,” Downing added. “We’re eager to not only continue the successful marketing approach established by Florajen’s founders, but to intensify the scope and reach within the professional community and leverage our strong pharmacy relationships to increase awareness of and access to Florajen.”

Other Clarion Brands products include Cystex urinary pain relief tablets, Absorbine Jr. topical pain relief liquid, Albolene moisturizing cleanser and makeup remover, and Anti Monkey Butt anti-friction powder with calamine.
