ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Community Pharmacists Association announced that Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, and Federal Trade Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya will be giving remarks at NCPA’s upcoming Congressional Pharmacy Fly-In. The fly-in will be taking place April 26-27, 2023, in Alexandria, Va., and Washington, D.C.
Comer recently announced an investigation into pharmacy benefit managers and the role their business practices play in increasing prescription drug costs and reducing access to community pharmacies. He will be speaking on Wednesday, April 26 from 8:30-9 a.m. ET. Bedoya and his fellow FTC commissioners voted unanimously in June 2022 to initiate a 6(b) study of PBMs. Bedoya will be speaking on Thursday, April 27 from 9:30-10:15 a.m. ET.
“NCPA’s fly-in is always an important event for independent pharmacists to attend, but it is especially meaningful this year given the growing scrutiny in Washington of PBM business practices,” said NCPA President Hugh Chancy, RPh. “This is our best opportunity yet to share with policymakers the many ways we serve their constituents and what changes to the payment model we’d need to best care for them in the future. I’m thrilled that Chairman Comer and Commissioner Bedoya will be speaking.
