TAMPA, Fla. — Floridians can now receive the newly approved 2025–2026 Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at Publix and Walgreens without a prescription.

Both pharmacy chains announced Tuesday that they have begun distributing the updated vaccines following FDA approval. According to Walgreens, the shots are available to adults 65 and older as well as individuals under 65 who are considered at higher risk for severe illness, based on CDC guidance.

A clarification from the Florida Board of Pharmacy paved the way for easier access to medications. Publix and Walgreens will now accept both appointments and walk-ins.

“Publix pharmacies are now accepting walk-ins for eligible patients, and we will begin offering appointments later today for as early as tomorrow,” a Publix spokeswoman said, speaking to 8 On Your Side.

Walgreens confirmed it is also providing appointments and walk-in availability across its Florida stores.
