CRN issues statement on the passing of Annette Dickinson

It is with deep sadness that the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) acknowledges the passing of Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., CRN’s former president and longest-serving staff member. Dr. Dickinson played a pivotal role in the growth and evolution of both CRN and the dietary supplement industry. Joining CRN as its original staff member in 1973, she held several positions over her distinguished tenure, culminating in her role as President from 2002 to 2005. Even after her retirement, Dr. Dickinson remained an active consultant and advocate for evidence-based nutrition policy.

Dr. Dickinson was a respected authority in the dietary supplement field, known for her commitment to science, her principled approach, and her dedication to promoting better nutrition. She authored numerous editions of The Benefits of Nutritional Supplements, testified before Congress, and served on esteemed advisory panels, including the FDA’s Food Advisory Committee and the Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels. 

Steve Mister, CRN’s President and CEO, remarked on her profound legacy: “Her steady hand and insistence on science-backed policy led the organization through many tough decisions and proved to define CRN's course as ‘the science behind the supplements.’”

Dr. Dickinson will be remembered not only for her many professional achievements but also for her warmth, wit, and generosity. She leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire CRN and the broader nutrition community.
