WASHINGTON — Stephen Wing, director of workforce initiatives at CVS Caremark Corp., plans to join Corporate Voices for Working Families, a nonprofit business membership organization focusing on issues affecting working families.
Washington, D.C.-based Corporate Voices said Wednesday that Wing is slated to start at the organization as president on Sept. 1. His responsibilities will include managing the group’s day-to-day operations and implementing its long-term strategic plan to improve the lives of working families and the competitiveness of U.S. businesses.
Wing currently is a member of the Corporate Voices board of trustees and serves on President Barack Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
"Steve Wing is passionate about issues involving working families and has an in-depth background and history of accomplishments in areas of workforce effectiveness, flexibility, mature workers and lower-wage workers," Donna Klein, executive chair and founder of Corporate Voices, said in a statement.
Corporate Voices said Wing brings extensive senior-level business management experience gained through a career spanning more than 35 years. At CVS Caremark, he partnered with government agencies, nontraditional employment organizations, educational institutions, faith-based organizations and corporate colleagues to provide opportunities for employment and training.
The organization noted that Wing has helped CVS Caremark develop cutting-edge programs like the Regional Learning Center, designed in partnership with One-Stop employment offices, and the Pathways to Pharmacy initiative, which introduces young people in inner-city and rural schools to careers in pharmacy. He has also expanded the CVS Caremark Mature Worker program and helped to grow the number of CVS employees over age 50 to nearly 20% of the company’s workforce.
"Steve Wing has been an important part of the CVS Caremark team," Lisa Bisaccia, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at CVS Caremark, said in a statement. "His visionary approach to building workforce initiatives has led to educational and career opportunities for thousands of people, many of whom are now working for CVS Caremark. We congratulate Steve on this opportunity and look forward to working with him in his new role at Corporate Voices as we continue to fulfill our commitment to meeting the pressing need for jobs in so many of the communities we serve."
