WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health is expanding its use of renewable electricity to reduce emissions, strengthen operational resilience and support continuity of care across its pharmacies, clinics and other facilities.
The company said it has made seven large-scale renewable energy investments since 2022 through new and expanded power purchase agreements. CVS Health has secured agreements for more than 969,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy as the projects come online.
The investments support CVS Health’s goal to source 50% of its energy from renewable electricity by 2040. In 2025, renewable electricity accounted for approximately 33% of the company’s total electricity use.
“As a health solutions company, we recognize that the health of our communities is closely connected to the health of our environment,” said Jenny McColloch, chief sustainability officer of CVS Health. “By investing in renewable energy, we're reducing emissions, strengthening the resilience of our operations and ensuring continuity of care for the patients and customers we serve in communities across the country.”
Through power purchase agreements, CVS Health supports renewable energy projects such as solar and wind farms without building or operating the projects itself. The projects deliver electricity to the power grid, while CVS Health receives the associated environmental benefits credited against its electricity use.
The agreements are also intended to help CVS Health reduce its Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, which stem from electricity used to operate its stores, clinics and facilities.
CVS Health said that increasing renewable electricity can improve energy reliability and efficiency while reducing its overall carbon footprint. The company also views energy resilience as important for maintaining operations during periods of increased electricity demand and extreme weather.
